I finish my last post by tooting the horn of Zach Greinke and how impressive it will be to watch him against the Jays last night...and of course, he throws up all over himself....last time I put all my eggs into the basket of a player wearing a Royals uniform....lol
As I wrote in the title, there was hardly anyone in the place last night considering it was the 20th anniversary of the opening of the then Skydome, they were honouring the 1989 AL East Championship team and one of the best pitchers in the majors was pitching for Kansas City....I don't know what the official attendance was, but the actual amount of people there was nothing more than 15 thousand....
The Rogers Centre itself is still a great wonder of engineering as it was the first stadium to have a fully-retractable roof....however 20 years of new stadiums has made retractable roofs nothing but normal nowadays....much like having to judge the classic stadiums like Fenway Park, Dodgers Stadium and later on Wrigley Field, Rogers Center does have its place in history as well, but I have to judge it on present day and not what it once was....
There was so much focus on the roof and the integration of a downtown hotel as well, but the rest of the stadium is very much blase and it loses a lot of points because of that.....much like the city as well, there's a corporate feel that irks me, much like what you would feel at Yankee Stadium as well....so unfortunately, the Rogers Centre makes it mid-pack...
