Alright....so, we were off to Pittsburgh and a 5 hour drive from Washington to our next destination of PNC Park, but we got derailed by about two hours because of a big accident near Maryland....we're getting to a point now in the trip where travel is going to become more hectic and I can't afford to lose anytime....we finally got into Pittsburgh just in time to check into the hotel and then get off again to go to PNC Park....
What a contrast between Nationals Park and PNC Park.....there is so much beauty to the stadium and there's some life to being at a game....it starts with the fact that the city and the team are definitely working together to make it the best experience possible...
There are several different garages that you can park in that are only 5 dollars for the night....what a concept! Not gouging the fan for every dollar possible.....then they close off the bridge that gets you to PNC Park....they even named it Roberto Clemente Bridge....
The view that you get with the river in the background is one of the best sightlines that we've seen so far.....it's a smaller ballpark as well, but they did a great job of using the smaller size to its adavntage and making it feel like a cozy and intimate atmosphere....it's just such a shame that the team has been so bad for so long....the fans that are there are definitely into the game, but you just feel for those people because they don't have an owner that will make the full investment to make that team better....and with that, the Pirates lost another game to the Reds and it's the second straight game that they haven't even scored a run....
After that, it was off to get some eats and drinks.....we found out very quickly that one of the great things about this city is that everything is dirt cheap....great for people on a cross-country trip.... :-)
Had a great meal at Mullen's, then went down to Carson St. to check out the nightlife.....found a place called the Carson City Saloon and had a couple of drinks there....at one point, the bartenders stood up on the bar and just started pouring shots into people's mouths....pretty good place...and we checked out Fat Heads as well....there's only 42 choices of beers on tap....definitely a place to go to just grab a beer and watch the game....we'll definitely be hitting up Carson St. again tonight....then it's off to Atlanta tomorrow afternoon for a couple days before we hit Florida.... :-)
