Just landed in Tampa and as the title suggests, I'm really drained today....I guess if I had a good night of sleep before my flight this morning, then I guess I wouldn't be as tired, but one of Jakubachelor's suggestions for Atlanta ended up being really good and we closed it out last night at a club called High 10....I'll get to that in a couple of seconds...
After the tornado warning on Sunday night, we were able to walk around downtown Atlanta yesterday, but under a threat of severe thunderstorms the whole day....Luckily for me, the rain held off for whatever reason and we had a great day for walking in Atlanta and the best weather for a baseball game yet at Turner Field...Like I always say, "Mama always called me lucky..."
The downtown of Atlanta was tiny and there wasn't really anything to do except check out the Centennial Olympic Park....we could have done the tour of CNN and the World of Coke, but I already know how a TV newsroom works and I'm not really interested in the process of how a bottle of Coke is made, especially when the price for each tour is about 15 bucks...
As we go to each city, we're becoming more and more efficient on what to do and how to find all the places to go in each city, so we only needed a couple of hours to sightsee in Atlanta yesterday....we really didn't need to leave the hotel as early as we did and we were trying to waste time before the game....Our thought over and over again was, "How did this city manage to get the Olympics over Athens and Toronto?" It's a decent city, but it's nowhere near the type of city that I would expect to host an Olympic Games....
We ended up at the stadium two hours before the game.....Turner Field did a nice job of integrating as much of the history of the team and the Olympics into the stadium as possible....They still have the wall of the old Fulton County Stadium in the parking lot and the original part of the wall where Hank Aaron hit 755, and the Olympic flame that Muhammad Ali lit for the 96 Olympics is at the edge of one of the parking lots for Turner Field...
However, it's got the same problem as Washington did in the sense that there's not much else to the stadium that really sticks out....the big difference is that the stadium for the Braves was built in 96 when stadiums built in that decade were more cookie-cutter and Washington was just built last year in an era where quirkiness was the in thing to do with stadium building....
After the game, we went to 10 High for Metal Mondays....I talked to the Jakubachelor during the day and he texted me and said that if we went there, it was going to be a tough morning for us....Sure enough, he was right.....it was a karaoke night, but the big differences were that you sung with a live band in front of you and you could only choose metal songs.....the live band makes it just an awesome night of karaoke.....it doesn't hurt either that the bartender decided to start pouring doubles for our rum and cokes (not like I was complaining)
We finally got back at about 2....Chris and Greg had to drive into Tampa, so they left just after 7:30 a.m. and I got to fly, so I left by 9:30, but it was a rough morning for sure! The game in Tampa is only about 90 minutes from now, so I'm off to see that.....then it's off to Miami for 3 days!
Have a great Cinco de Mayo! :-)
