Oh Bourbon Street....you so crazy!

I'm having trouble trying to get started 'cause there's so much to get to....I guess I should apologize for missing out yesterday, but we had internet connection problems in the hotels in Orlando and New Orleans, so this is the first time I've been online over the weekend....

We hung out on South Beach on Thursday night and recovered enough to head out to the beach for one last time on Friday afternoon....Florida was having record temperatures over the time we were there, so we baked in the sun and it's the closest I've ever come to having a sunburn...I've never had one in my life because of my brown skin, but I hear it's unpleasant....lol

Then we had four hours ahead of us to head to Orlando....let me tell you, the drivers in Florida are just terrible....I felt uneasy just being on the road with these people 'cause they just weave in and out, they tailgate, they speed....you name the flaw, they do it....so I was happy to get to the final destination of the hotel in Orlando....

With Disney World and Universal Studios right down the street, it was quite the family town to be in.....unfortunately, I'm not with children, so I'm looking for a bar or club to go to.....there were a couple that perked up our interest, but we knew that we would hit up New Orleans hard the next night after a 9 hour drive and have to be up early to get to the Astros game on Sunday, so we needed all the energy we could get....so we decided to just pace ourselves with an easy night in....

The next day, we got up early for a nine-hour drive through Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana.....I quickly found out that the drivers are no better in the other states than in Florida...but it was a Saturday, so we didn't have to deal with too much stupidity....but being in a car all day is draining...

We finally made it into New Orleans and quickly headed down to Bourbon St. to have some dinner and get our party on....we headed to the French quarter and more specifically Bourbon St....as we go down there, we see that the devastation from Hurricane Katrina is still very evident.....there are still quite a number of houses and buildings just outside the Tourist area that are abandoned or are in rough shape....

Another problem was that the locals were very rude....I understand that they went through a lot of hardship, but it was by far the rudest city that we've been to so far....yet another problem was the overall cleanliness of the city as well....it smelled terrible and it looked as though it was unkept....

But the number one problem was the overall feeling of unease....I just felt so unsafe there....I know that there's a lot of crime in other cities, but in New Orleans, it just felt as though it could happen at any second....and it almost happened, but I'll get to that in a couple of seconds...

We went out for some dinner on Bourbon St....I assumed that I was going to be gouged beyond belief for eating since we're in the tourist area, but surprisingly, things were reasonably priced....we ended up going to a place called Pat O'Briens....it was recommended by a few people and it would end up being the place where we spent a lot of our time....their famous drink was called the Hurricane....4 ounces of rum into a huge cocktail for only 8 dollars....it was good! A couple of hurricanes and a cigar later, we emerged onto Bourbon St. and holy cow, what a difference three hours makes....where did all these people come from and where did all this debauchery come from?

All of a sudden, it was as if Canada Day on Rideau St. had hit except that there's more debauchery because you can have any alcoholic drink in your hand on the street as long as you have it in a plastic cup or container....you can also buy alcohol at any one of the different vendors on the street....you have your choices of different mixed drinks or beer, but if you buy beer, you're not buying just beer, you're buying "Huge Ass Beer" LOL....you can also jump in and out of any bar without having to worry about lines or cover....we decided to jump into one of the clubs...

It was an awesome atmosphere, but as I was walking around in the club, I felt someone trying to pickpocket me.....I pushed the hand away and gave a little shove as if to say, "What the **** do you think you're doing?" Not a good move 'cause at that point, I had a few people now chasing me around the club....I needed to get out of there fast....Luckily, I got out of there and just blended into the crowd of people, but the uneasiness that I felt ended up being warranted...

We walked around Bourbon St. a little more.....we ended up seeing that one intersection was totally blocked because one guy parked his car and starting pumping out some rap music and three girls decided to get around the car and do some stripper-like dancing....soooo many guys just camped out and watched.....hahaha

By the end, we were done and home by 4:30 in the morning, but because of the time change, our bodies still felt like it was 5:30 a.m.....and we had to get up three hours later to get to the Astros game that was five hours away....I'll get to the experience of Minute Maid Park on virtually no sleep tomorrow, but for now, it's time to catch up on more sleep after a wild night on Bourbon St. :-)
