The last day in Minneapolis involved heading to the Sculpture Garden and then going to the Metrodome for the Twins game....
The sculpture garden was voted the number 1 attraction in Minneapolis by TripAdvisor and it was just down the street from the hotel, so we decided to check it out....I'm not going to lie, I don't get art whatsoever, so it really didn't have much affect on me, but it was a chance to get outside for an hour or so.....the big thing is the giant spoon with the cherry....shrug of the shoulders
Relaxed for a little bit afterwards and then headed to the Metrodome to see the Twins and Indians...it's only about a 15 minute walk from Nicollet Mall downtown and if walking isn't really your thing, the light rail is set up that as long as you start in the downtown core, you can go directly to the front door of the Metrodome for 50 cents each way....even if you don't live downtown, 3.50 round-trip on light rail to get to and from the game.... something that I would love to see for Scotiabank Place...but that's another topic for another day...
I had heard nothing but bad things about the Metrodome....the fact is that it's the final year for the stadium and the team is really pushing the idea that the new stadium is coming...so Target Field will open in 2009 and I'll have to make another trip out here next year....
My expectations were so low that I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's not as bad as people make it out to be....for one, the dome is so small that you're literally on top of the action, so it has a nice, intimate atmosphere to it....the team also recognizes that the team isn't selling as well, so they did a great job to curtain off the centre field upper deck and put up a curtain that highlights the greats from the past....
But at the end of the day, it's still another convertible stadium, so it's not aesthetically pleasing and I found out just how hard it is for opposing outfielders to pick up a ball with that white roof....for the first couple of innings, I couldn't find a fly ball for the life of me....I finally got used to it after the fourth inning or so...
